About Kickboxing

Kickboxing is a modern martial art, which has developed using the punching and kicking techniques from many different traditional martial arts. Combining them with the competitive nature of martial arts, kickboxing forms a dynamic sport where competitors can compete and show of their skills in a controlled environment. There are several different disciplines within kickboxing. Semi-contact involves scoring points with a controlled technique either with a punch or a kick to a specific target area of the body. Namely the front and side of the head or the front and side of the body. Points are awarded when scored throughout the bout. Light continuous are time controlled bouts where the two competitors will fight for a set period of time using controlled techniques to the head or body, at the end of the time the judges will award a decision. Full contact is normally held in a ring and over a set amount of rounds, the objective being to knock out your opponent or win on a points decision awarded by the judges.

Borders Martial Arts train in either Semi-contact or Light-continuous disciplines. Your health and safety are paramount at all times, and all techniques will be controlled and disciplined. You will be required to wear personal protection during all sparring and any competitions.

Kickboxing is a sport that appeals to both men and women, irrespective of fitness level. There are many benefits from undertaking kickboxing, it helps develop strength and flexibility, can improve mental agility and stamina, helps to increase confidence, promotes fitness and wellbeing and can also reduce stress.
